Varsity Firebirds: Week 4 Recap and Week 5 Preview

The Firebirds split their series against the Arizona College Prep Knights with a road win and a home loss. On Tues March 31 they beat the Knights 4-3 behind strong pitching from seniors Devin Long (6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) and Max Mangini (1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K). The Birds were led at the plate by junior Anders Norgaard (1-3, 2B, RBI), sophomore Keone Ede (1-3, 2B, 1 R), and seniors Tanner Anderson (1-3) and Bo Shuba (1-3, RBI). The Birds lost an extra inning close one on Thurs April 2 4-5. Relief pitching shined with juniors Hunter Halvorson (3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) and Will Gnirk (3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) leading the way. At the plate, senior Tanner Anderson (3-4, 1 R), and juniors Reece Solar (1-3, HR, 2 RBI, 1 R), Anders Norgaard (1-4, 1 RBI), and Jahir Jensen (1-3) helped keep the Birds in striking distance. Up next, the Firebirds play the Desert Mountain Wolves at home on Mon April 6 at 6:00 pm and on the road on Wed April 8 at 3:45 pm. They finish the week at home on Fri April 10 at 6:00 pm against the Notre Dame Prep Saints. Come out and support your Firebirds!
