Varsity Firebirds Go 2-2 With Wins Over Top 6A Opponents in Preseason Tournament

The Varsity Firebirds picked up two big wins over top-ranked 6A opponents the Corona del Sol Aztecs (6-5) and the Hamilton Huskies (6-3) in the first games of the 34th Annual Adam Donnenfield Pre-Season Tournament. Despite strong performances on both sides of the field, the Firebirds dropped their next two games to the Red Mountain Mountain Lions (6-10) and the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions (2-7). Defensively, the Firebirds were led by their strong starting pitching rotation of senior Devin Long and juniors Grafton Marshall-Inman, Will Ginrik, and Hunter Halvorson. On the offensive side, the Firebirds had solid performances from seniors Bo Shuba (4-12, 1 HR), Tanner Anderson (3-10), and junior Anders Norgaard (5-11 with 1 HR). Next up for Varsity includes a home game vs the Saguaro Sabercats (Mon, March 2 @ 6 pm) and 3 away games at the Willow Canyon Wildcats (Tues, March 3 @ 6:30 pm), the Mountain Pointe Pride (Thurs, March 5 @3:45 pm), and the San Luis Sidewinders (Fri, March 6 @3:45 pm).
