JV Firebirds: Week 2 Recap & Week 3 Preview

The JV Firebirds improved to 4-1 on the season with road wins over the Centennial Coyotes and McClintock Chargers this week. On March 23 they beat the Coyotes 13-2 off of 11 hits and 9 RBIs, including a triple by junior Thomas Gonzales (2-2, 2 R, 2 RBI). Sophomores Quinn Burggraf (2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Luca Montemore (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), and junior Andres Sanchez (2-3, 2 R, 1 BB) all had a big day at the plate. On the mound, junior Caden Carey (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K) started and sophomore Rory Stallone (1 IP 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) closed. The Firebirds mad early work of the Chargers on March 26, scoring 17 runs on 7 hits to induce a mercy rule win after the first inning. Sophomore Quinn Burggraf and juniors Logan Carey and Thomas Gonzales each doubled. Pitching was led by Andrew Nishida-Grimm (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K). Next up for the JV Firebirds will be a home game vs the Arizona College Prep Knights at 3:45 pm on Mon March 31, followed by an away game at the Knights on Thurs April 2.
