JV Firebirds Recap: Week 1

The JV Firebirds started their 2026 season going 2-1 with a loss at the Saguaro Sabercats and 2 home wins versus the Willow Canyon Wildcats and the San Luis Sidewinders. On Mon Mar 2, the Firebirds fell 1-4 to the Sabercats despite collecting a double each from Thomas Gonzales (1-2, 2b, 1 RBI) and Andres Sanchez (1-3). Defensively, the pitching staff was strong with Andrew Nishida-Grimm, Luca Montemore, and Mathias Slethaug combining for 5 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, and 7 SO on 5.1 IP. The Firebirds took down the Wildcats on Tue Mar 3, 8-6, behind strong pitching from Caden Carey (4.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 9 SO) and Rory Stallone (1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB). They were led offensively by Quinn Burggraf at the plate (2-4, 2b, 3 RBI, 1 R) who also collected 2 stolen bases on the day. The team finished the week off with a home victory on Fri Mar 6, 5-2 versus the Sidewinders. The team collected 8 hits with Logan Carey leading the way on a 2 RBI double. The Firedbirds pitching was strong with Andrew Nishida-Grimm leading things off on the mound (4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO). The JV Firebirds now have 2 weeks off to prepare for their next away game on Mon Mar 23 @ the Centennial Coyotes.
