Freshman Firebirds Recap: Week 1

The Freshman Firebirds started the 2026 season going 2-1 this week with wins over the Saguaro Sabercats and the San Luis Sidewinders, and a loss to the Willow Canyon Wildcats. The Firebirds grinded out a hard fought victory over the Sabercats on Monday Mar 2, 3-2, led by a strong performance on the mound from Colson Good (3.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO). On the offensive side they were balanced with base hits from Luke Mahler, Colson Good, Miles Lewis, Brandon Smith, and Landon Tolerico. On Tues Mar 3, the Firebirds suffered their first loss to the Wildcats 7-5, despite being disciplined at the plate and picking up 4 walks and 1 HBP. Colson Good had a 2 RBI double to help as well. The Freshman finished the week on a high note overpowering the Sidewinders on Fri Mar 6 with a 14-4 victory at home. The Firebirds were led offensively by Dominic Rodriguez (1-3, 3b, 1 run scored) and Brandon Smith (1-2, 2b). They picked up 6 walks on the day as well. Smith also showed up strong in relief with 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, and 4 SO. The Firebirds have 2 weeks off of games and start back up on Mar 23 @ the Centennial Coyotes.
